Safety and care are not just words at Adaptis, they are what we live by every day. That is why last week, part of our team took part in First Aid training. This was basically about making sure each person feels safe and ready to help - no matter the situation.
The training was led by Kaileys Consortium Limited, who also offer courses on Fire Safety, Chemical Safety, and more. For our team, the focus was First Aid—how to act fast and help someone in need before medical professionals arrive.
We learned that, by law, every workplace with more than one hundred workers must have at least five people trained in First Aid. For workplaces with fifty-one to one hundred workers, at least five trained people must always be available during working hours. This shows how serious First Aid is and why our company is making it a priority.
The training was lively and full of surprises. Victor, one of our team members, said it was “really great.” For Kevin Kipkorir, the best part was how interactive it was: “There were lots of questions, and the trainers made it fun.” We even got to bust some old myths about First Aid. For example, many thought CPR always means mouth-to-mouth. "That’s not true," Kevin said. "You can use a pocket mask from the First Aid kit, or simply perform chest compressions with your hands."
We also learned how to check a person’s response in an emergency:
· Alert: Are they awake or unconscious?
· Voice: Do they respond when spoken to?
· Pain: Do they react to pain?
· Unresponsive: Is there no response at all?
We also learned the right way to do infant CPR:
· Start with 5 gentle breaths
· Find the heart and do 30 small chest compressions
· Give 2 more gentle breaths
· Keep going until help arrives, the baby recovers, or you are too tired to continue
These were the key steps in an emergency:
Step 1. Assess what happened
Step 2. Make the area safe
Step 3. Give emergency aid and ask bystanders to help
Step 4. Call for more help
Step 5. Afterward, restock supplies, clean up, and support each other
The following were the top five things we learned
· What First Aid means and why it matters
· How to act fast in an emergency
· How to treat different wounds
· The truth about CPR, especially for children
· How to help a choking child
This training is not just about checking a box. It means our team is safer and more confident in emergencies. Our team can help not only at work but also at home or in the community Adaptis is building a caring culture where everyone looks out for each other
In our office, you can see green signs from the entrance. These show the fire exit routes if there is an emergency. While we hope never to use these skills, it feels good to know that trained team members are always close by, ready to help.
We are already looking forward to the next training session. The learning never stops at Adaptis!
